Labs: connected hydration prototype 

Creating a connected water bottle to manage hydration levels

Challenge

The underlying belief behind this FutureBrand Labs experiment was that 21st century products and services need to exist in a networked ecosystem of complimentary services, tools and information. The Lab was established to help FutureBrand’s clients understand how their existing products might be augmented by new technologies and new customer behaviours - and our initial project was to demonstrate how this might happen in practise.

Solution

Our idea was to create smart container that understands how much liquid is within it at any particular time, creating an experience which helps individuals understand how much water they’re drinking, and therefore how hydrated they are. We prototyped a weight-based system for measuring our container’s contents using 3D printed materials.

We connected the bottle to an online database via wifi, and created an dashboard for hydration which allows its users to track and measure their current levels of hydration, set against temperature and humidity data in their location.
